Mayor's Welcome Page

Regardless of our age, libraries are one of our finest institutions.
From the infant who is fascinated by the sounds and sights of his/her first book, to the senior whose mind is staying sharp by reading all those books that time failed to make available at an earlier time, we all benefit tremendously from the books, video and audio tapes, and many services provided by the friendly staff at the Culver City Julian Dixon County library.

Through the years, our Culver City Friends of the Library have supported the County Library in a series of meaningful ways. Just today the Friends were sponsoring one of their many book sales which make reading material accessible while at the same time collecting money to assist our library. I am amazed by the energy and creativity of the volunteers in our Friends of the Library. Thanks to the Friends, some of the best cultural and educational programs in Culver City take place at our library.

Information is powerful, and that's what the library's all about. The more we know, the more able we are to make our world a better place for all. And, let's be certain to wipe out illiteracy as we gain more knowledge about the world and ourselves.

So, be certain to join your neighbors and friends at the Friend's outdoor showing of Peter Pan on August 19th. Like our library, the Peter Pan event is for the whole family. I will be looking forward to seeing everyone at this special program.

Gary Silbiger, Mayor of Culver City
